Fantastic Four: First Steps(2025) written review

Fantastic Four: First Steps

Cast: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn

Writers: Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan

Director: Matt Shakman

 *** out of Five Stars

Four astronauts go up in space, are hit with some sort of gamma rays and are giving yada yada. You’ve heard this before. The Fantastic Four has always been the O.G. of the superhero genre that it’s a bit surprising it’s taken Marvel that long to make a movie about them.  It’s understanding why they started with Iron Man and Thor as their sort of test movies first instead of their well known properties.  They really should have rebooted Howard the Duck first, but that’s a discussion for another article.

The Covid pandemic in 2020 is something that everyone is still recovering from.  Having the whole world being basically shut down for a year has affected the way we socialize with each other for years to come. We were stuck in our homes with only the people we knew and the politics and our interests more or less the same.  This is the time where we saw the rise of the extreme right and the extreme left become more and more popular in our culture.  This latest film from director Ari Aster(Hereditary) shows us that divide in this very unique dark comedy reflection of our times.

Marlee Matlin won an Oscar for her work in Children of a Lesser God in 1986.  At the time she was the only deaf person to receive an award for acting(until Troy Kostur won for his work in Coda in 2021)  After her Oscar win, Marlee became the poster person for a lot of deaf people around the world.  Being tasked with this responsiblity at such a young age has giving this woman success but also a lot of stress as well.

A Minecraft Movie(2025) Written Review

A Minecraft Movie

Cast: Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks

Writers: Way Too Many to List Here

Director: Jared Hess

*** out of Five Stars

There is a television ad that has McDonald's mascots in the world of Minecraft to promote both the fast food chain and the movie.  This is nothing new as countless other companies have done cross promotion for other features as well.  What makes this interesting is that the ads seem to push more for the video game than they do the movie.  Even though it does show clips from A Minecraft Movie.  Seeing these characters in the syle of the game is going to make people think of that more than the film itself. But maybe fans do not mind.  This is a decent fast food feature film.  Fans will find a lot to love about it and be full while others will be fed just enough to tide them over until they get home to eat.
