The Vern's Official List of Oscar Winners in 2023

Hello gang, The Vern here to give you my scientificly accurate list of every category on who will win the Oscars in 2023.  I really dug deep to bring you this list with all ther nominees and I will give you my predictions into who will win each category.  Sometimes I will say why and other times I will not.  Most likely I will not because typing is tough on my writsts and my eyes get tired.  Oh and if there are any mispells of misused grammar.   I aplogize, OK.  I'm not getting paid to write this,

OK, Lets Go

Best Animated Feature

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Pinocchio(The good Stop Motion animated one that is not on Disney Plus)

Turning Red

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

The Sea Beast

Winner - Marcel The Shell with Shoes On, but it could very well go to Guillermo Del Toro's version of Pinnocchio, but I hope they go for Marcel because that message is way more uplifitng  and heartfelt.

Best Animated Short.

The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse

The Flying Sailor

My Year of Dicks

Ice Merchants

An Ostrich Told Me Te World is Fake and I think I Belive It

I know nothing about any of these but I'll pick the last one about the Ostrich as my pick to win

Best Live Action Short

An Irish Goodbye

Ivalu

Le Pupille

Night Ride

The Last Suitcase

Winner  will be Night Ride.  Look I know nothing about this category, but the real shame is that The MovieGoer wasn't even nominated.  You can hear my thoughts about this great short on my review of M3GAN, and The Whale.

Best Adapted Screenplay

All Quiet on The Western Front

Glass Onion

Living

Top Gun Maverick

Women Talking

Winner:  All Quiet on The Western Front because it's up for Best Picture and this is the one of two categories it most likely will win for.

Best Original Screenplay

The Banshees of Inisherin

Everything, Everywhere, All At Once

The Fablemans

Tar

Triangle of Sadness

As much as I want Everything Everywhere to sweep every category.  I predict the award will go to to Triangle of Sadness.   Mainly because other movies will win big in other categories.

Best Documentary Feature

All That Breathes

The Beauty and the Bloodshed

Fire of Love

A House made of Splinters

Navalny

Winner: The Beauty and the Bloodshed

Best Documentary Short

The Elephant Whisperers

Haulout

How do you mesaure a year

The Martha Mitchell Effect

Stranger at The Gate

Winner: The Elephant Whisperers

Best Visual Effects

All Quiet on The Western Front

Avatar: The Way of Water

Top Gun: Maverick

Black Panther:Wakanda Forever

The Batman

For it's use of actual planes being filmed without any CGI.   Yeah, this one goes to Top Gun: Maverick, baby.

Best Sound

All Quiet on The Western Front

Top Gun 2

Avatar 2

Le Batman

Elvis

Winner will also go to Top Gun 2.

Best Makeup and Hairstyling

All Quiet on The Western Front

The Batman

Black Panther 2

Elvis

The Whale

If Everything, Everywhere was in this one it would be my pick  but for now I'll say The Whale  and it may be the only category it wins in.

Best Cinematography

All Quiet on the Western Front

Tar

Empire of Light

Bardo, False Chronicals on a Handful of Truths

Elvis

Winner:  All Quiet..

Best Costume

Babylon

Everything, Everywhere

Mrs Haris goes to Paris

Elvis

Black Panther 2

Winner: Everything Everywhere Yada Yada Yada

Best Editing

The Banshees of Inisherin

Tar

Top Gun 2

Everything, Everywhere All At Once

Elvis.

Im also predicting Everything Everywhere winning here too but Top Gun 2 could snag the award as well.

Best Production Design

Babylon

All Quiet on the Western Front

Avatar 2

Elvis

The Fablemans

Winner - Babylon  but the safe bet may be All Quiet..  Im still picking Babylon

Best Score

All Quiet on The Western Front

Babylon

The Banshees of Inisherin

Everything Everywhere...

The Fablemans

Babylon could get this, because it was the only really good thing besides production design about the movie I could find ,  I'm picking Evertything Everywhere to win.

Best Song

Applause from Tell it Like a Woman

Lift me Up from Black Panther 2

Hold My Hand from Top Gun 2

This is a Life from Everything Everywhere..

Naatu, Naatu from RRR

The mere fact that RRR only has one nomination is ridiculous.  This should be the one nominated as much as Everything Everywhere ,,,   It's my pick to win even though it most likely will go to Black  Panther 2.  With that said I do predict it will be the best live performance at this year's Oscar and will be  the monent everyone talks about.

Best International Feature

All Quiet on The Western Front

EO

Close

Argentina: 1985

The Quiet Girl

Ugh No RRR here so I really don't care so I'll say the winner is All Quiet... just because it's up in other categories.

Best Suppourting Actress

Jamie Lee Curtis - Everything Everywhere

Hong Chau - The Whale

Angela Bassett - Black Panther 2

Kerry Condon - The Banshees of Inisherin

Stephanie Hsu - Everyhing Everywhere.

This is tough because both Angela Basset and Jamie Lee Curtis deserve a win.  I'm going to go with Jamie Lee in this category.  The woman is an icon and deserves to win an award for her role here.

Best Supporting Actor

Brendan Gleeson - The Banshees of Inisherin

Bryan Tyree Henry - Causeway

Judd Hirsch - The Fablemans

Barry Keoghan -The Banshees of Inisherin

Ke Huy Quan - Everyhing Everywhere...

Winner Ke Huy Quan.  Nuff Said, Mic Drop , Boom

Best Actor

Colin Farrell - The Banshees of Inisherin

Austin Butler - Elvis

Brendan Fraser: The Whale

Paul Mescal - Aftersun

Bill Nighy - Living

Everyone is saying that Brendan will win this for The Whale but my pick is Colin for Banshees of Inisherin.  I may be eating my own words too.

Best Actress

Cate Blanchett - Tar

Michelle Wilkiams - The Fablemans

Andrea Riseborough - To Leslie

Ana de Armas - Blonde

Michelle Yeoh - Everything Everywhere All At Once

I know this is Cate Blanchett's category.  She has won in many many other ward shows that she is the safe bet to win.  I really want Ana de Armas to win this one just for no other reason than it wil piss a bunch of film snobs off and that makes me extremly happy.

Best Director

Martin McDonagh - The Banshees of Inisherin

The Daniels - Everything Everywhere All...

Steven Spielberg - The Fablemans

Todd Field - Tar

Ruben Ostland - Triangle of Sadness

My pick of course is Everything Everywhere but the upset could be Banshees or very much so Triangle.  Yeah Im choosing The Daniels to Win

Best Picture

All Quiet on the Western Front

Top Gun 2

The Banshees of Inisherin

Elvis

Everything Everywhere All At Once

Avatar 2

The Fablemans

Tar

Triangle of Sadness

Women Talking

Winner :    Everything Everywhere All At Once    That movie was really really good and one that I will gladly watch again and again and again.  It was an original story and had just so many great things about it.

Do you agree or disagree with my predictions  let me know in the comments or on social media

  1. A lot of the short films are available on the New Yorker, you should check them out! I hope The Ice Merchant wins animated. I want Marcel to win too but I don't think it will sadly.
